English float bowl figurine, attributed to the great English maker Bagley, circa 1937. It is clearly embossed on the base with the country of origin.
The statuette depicts the myth of the Princess Andromeda bound to the rocks—the original ‘damsel in distress’. Her hands are raised to her head in lament. (It’s a long story, but she gets rescued, married, has lots of children and is turned into a constellation after she finally dies, so it all turns out okay.)
Andromeda is in a lovely clear ice blue, and as collectors know, this figure is hard to find. This is the freestanding version: She is unusual in that she was not made to fit onto a frog; she is attached to a block depicting rocks, without flower holes
